Never mind the plethora of toy and supermarket ads with annoying X-Factor kids on the TV at the moment, it has truly felt like Christmas has come early at Finn McCool’s this week as the first wave of orders from the new website have been packed and dispatched.

We’ve sent parcels as far and wide as Seattle in the United States and by now the first few packages should be arriving at the doors of our customers closer to home. Each one packed full of freebies and surprises.

We want to thank not only those who purchased from the site, but everyone who visited us, retweeted us or promoted us on Facebook – we really appreciate all the kind words. We had a truly successful launch that saw a 1000% rise in traffic, but we know that the hard work has only just begun.

To say thank you we have found a few more Denko Waterproof Wallets worth €29.95 to give away to our next few customers. And when they’ve all gone I’m sure we’ll dig out some more cool stuff to give away in the lead up to Christmas. Don’t forget to join our mailing list to see what we have on offer.

Welcome one and all to our new website/webshop/whatever you want to call it!

You guys have had a long wait but I hope you agree with us that it has been worth it – and this is just the beginning. We have nearly 300 products up on the site ready for purchase and over the coming months we will be adding plenty more. Especially as the new Summer ’12 stock starts rolling in.

There are a few creases that still need to be ironed out but we have the whips out on the code monkeys and these will be fixed soon.

At the moment we are a little light on content so please bare with us as we gather as much information about surfing here on the stunning Dingle Peninsula as we can get our grubby mitts on. We have future plans to fill the site with as much surf news and footage as possible so lookout for photos being uploaded, new videos focusing on each of our marvelous breaks, podcasts, iPhone apps, feature articles, offers, competitions and much more. They are coming, we promise.

It’s been a long hard slog this website building stuff, and we have plenty of people to thank for their help along the way. First up there is Anthony McGuinness, our go to guy when HTML code was getting the better of us – which it did. Often. Without Anto we would still be staring at a blank screen so thanks big guy. In the same breath I would also like to give thanks to  Damien Mulley and Chris Byrne who’s kick up the bum instruction of “Get a ****ing website” got the ball rolling.

Thanks also goes to Chris May, Tim Smith, Nick Gammon and Con from Human Seals who were so kind in letting us use their awesome photography and all the brands who helped in sourcing us images to use around the site. Also to my mother, Patsy Farr who allowed me to turn her art studio into a Heath Robinson style photography lab.

Then there is Feeleep who was there to answer any and all questions on how to get this thing working and our unofficial testers Cian O’Driscoll and Jamie Mitchell who were always on hand to make sure our buttons worked. Also I must give a big thumbs up to all at Blacknight Solutions who were great at helping us with any hosting problems – and in English not geek!

Finally I must personally give a massive thank you to my girlfriend Pamela who has had to listen to me go on about nothing but websites, analytics, SEO and the like for the past six weeks. She has been my sounding board, my chief motivator and my rock throughout the design process and I apologise to her for getting quite so obsessed! Thank you so much koala bear.

Like the best waves, a new website is worth waiting for…. and blimey have you guys been waiting a long time!

For years now we have been promising to deliver a new website. “Under construction” was becoming less of a temporary notice and more of a company motto. And as Peter Stafford pointed out on Twitter “the Finn McCool’s website has been under construction longer than the pyramids!”

Well we are pleased to announce that the wait is over. Set your alarms, write it in your diaries, the new Finn McCool’s website will be launching at 11:11GMT on 11/11/11.

We are pretty new to this website building lark (close your eyes and imagine a monkey in a room full of on/off buttons and you’d be half way there) so please ignore all the chopping & changing that will be going on around here while we sort ourselves out. Things will appear, disappear and generally be messed about with while we get the layout right.
